Le Petit Palais
Overlooking the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais houses the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in the city of Paris that offers a large overview of the artistic creation from the period of Antiquity to the early twentieth century. The Petit Palais museum now houses the largest collection of work of art in Paris. Created by Charles Girault for the Universal Exhibition of Paris city in 1900, like the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais is divided in four buildings around a semicircular garden on Avenue Winston Churchill, which connects the Esplanade des Invalides to the Champs-Elysees.
Renovated and extended in 2005, the museum of the Petit Palais now occupies 22,000 square meters and the gardens around the building have been refurbished. The museum offers, in addition to its permanent collection, temporary exhibitions called "expositions collections". 1300 works of art and history are exhibited which represents the first public collection in France after the collection of the French State. The works of the Petit Palais are varied included ancient bronzes, Dutch, French and Italian paintings, collections of Greek Roman and Egyptian art, statues and books of the middle ages ... The museum also owns works of nineteenth-century French painters like Cezanne, Degas, Bonnard and Courbet.
