Domaine national du Palais-Royal
The Palais-Royal was built in the early 17th century by the Cardinal Richelieu. It stands at the opposite of the north wing of the Louvre. After the cardinal and Louis XIII death, who had inherited of the palace, Anne of Austria and his young son Louis XIV moved in. It was named Palais-Royal at that time. It was reconstructed after the fire of 1773 and became an important place during the french revolution. The 12th of July 1789, Camille Desmoulins, a french revolutionary, addressed the crowd in one of the cafes of the palace with a speech remained famous. A place of power but also a place of entertainment, the palace offers somptuous gardens and restaurants and became in the 1980‘s a place for fashion creators. Today, the palace hosts State institutions such as the Culture Department. The Palais-Royal is a symbol of the French history, where culture meets pleasure.
