Conciergerie

The Conciergerie is the main vestige of the former Palais de la Cité which was the residence and the seat of power of the Kings of France. Today, the building is located on the Quai de l’Horloge on the Ile de la Cité. In 1370, the building became a prison after it was abandonned by Charles V and his successors. The prison was settled on the ground floor along the Quain de l’Horloge and its two towers. The frst floor was the Parliament. The prison had a very bad reputation during the Terreur and Marie-Antoinette was jailed there in 1793.
