Tourism Marseille
Marseille is the second most populated city in France following Paris, located on the south east of France at the seaside of the Mediterranean, Marseille is the biggest port in France as well as being the administrative capital of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and of the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
One of the most attractive places around Marseille is the Calanques, a beautiful rocky coast who is bordering the Mediterranean sea that are beginning from the village of Callelongue outside Marseille and going down to Cassis. In the east of the city are the Sainte-Baume mountain, the city of Toulon and La Côte d'Azur. Also Sainte Victoire mountain is located in the north.
In the west there is l'Estaque, who was deemed as a famous place for its artists. Further west are the Côte Bleue, the Gulf of Lion and the Camargue region in the Rhône delta. The airport is situated to the north west of the city at Marignane. Marseille's main street is the large boulevard called the Canebière that goes from the Vieux Port to the Réformés quarter.
Two massive forts, Fort Saint-Nicolas on the south side and Fort Saint-Jean on the north, border the entrance of the Old Port. Further out in the Bay of Marseille is the Frioul archipelago, which is made of 4 islands, one of them is the location of If castle, made famous by the novel : The Count of Monte Cristo. The basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde dominates the southwest of the city.
