Opéra Garnier

Palais Garnier (or Opéra Garnier) forms with l’Opéra Bastille ‘l’Opéra national de Paris’. Considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world, l’Opéra Garnier is one of Paris’ main landmarks. The palace also houses a library and a museum based on the history of the building and its creation desired by Napoleon the 3rd. Palais Garnier, ceated by Charles Garnier, who was chosen by 171 candidates at the time, is an architectural masterpiece known worldwide. The large staircase, the library-museum, the foyers, the auditorium and the Salon du Glacier are all famous parts of Palais Garnier, which stands 73 metres high. Situated on Avenue de l’Opéra in Paris’ 9th arrodissement, the building, constructed from a mixture of baroque styles, represents late 19th century architecture. Subsequently, the opera had an influence on the construction of other monuments in the world. In the library-museum stands a permanent gallery exhibiting drawings, models and paintings. The gallery also houses a space for temporary exhibitions. Prestigious names such as Verdi, Massenet or Wagnar have all played within the walls of the opera; experiencing much success.
