The best French amusement parks
The many amusement and leisure parks of France offer entertainment for the whole family, with roller coasters, rides, shows and more. Every year millions of visitors come to these parks. Some of them take us into worlds of their own, such as the comic-book universe of Parc Astérix or the fairy-tale world of Disneyland Paris.
As early as the 10th century, France held the seasonal fairs that can be seen as the ancestors of modern amusement parks. The first parks themselves appeared from the 17th century onwards, in Europe. One of the best known was Vauxhall, in London. Visitors stepped into a world of mock ruins and wandered among triumphal arches. More recently, new kinds of parks have appeared, such as science parks (Vulcania) and environmental parks.
A day in a leisure park has something for the whole family. In France, the most visited park is still Disneyland Paris, with more than 10 million visitors in 2016. From the Puy du Fou to the Futuroscope, step into our selection of the 11 best amusement parks in France.
