Le mesnil-saint-denis

The Castle registered to the list of the Historic Monuments was built in 1589 by Louis Habert de Montmort. His family lived there until 1720.

Extended and modified at the 17th century, the Castle preserved from its first period, the dovecote, the turrets, the ditches and part of the main building. Inside, a vault from the 19th century shelters a french painted  ceiling from the Italian school.
The woodworks preserved their original paintings (beams, shutters, skirting, chimney).
The slope made of iron work climb to the staircase "à la française" is a classified work.

At the initiative of Maître Berrurier, notary and mayor of Mesnil-Saint-Denis, in 1952, the town owned the Castle to shelter the town hall and its engineering services there. The Castle is opened to visitors for the Heritage Days in September.

Created in 1684 by Vauban, Noës pond was dug to drain water to the basins and the dancing waters of Versailles.

The pond is 87cm deep and 580m wide. Since 1977, this network does not fund Versailles waters anymore. This natural quiet place offers a wild intimate space with 266 plant species and 96 bird species (among 354 in Ile-de-France).

The pond feeds the sedentary and migrating birds. The observer will identify the hairy grèbe.
It resides in the roselières of the pond. In February its cry dates the beginning of the spring love parades in astonishing ceremonies with his new partner. The couple build a floating nest in the roselière, brooding the young grèletons hidden under the back feathers.

The pond of Noës satisfy the bird stomachs and the fishermen passion.

Created approximately thirty years ago by the landscape designer Mark Rudkin, author of the refitting of the gardens of the Palais Royal in Paris, of the garden of Giverny, Blérancourt or Chaumont, the garden of the Wood of Fay is the first realization in France of this colourist coming from the United States.

The structured part of the garden is framed by high hedges of charms and yews. Inside of this structure, the different parts are freely organized : white garden, blue garden, rosery (divided itself into eight boxwood squares), rubbles, papering plants.

A lightly framed path goes down from the hill to the woods : camellias, carpet of tiny cyclamens, jonquils answer to the softness of blue periwinkles. The wild apparence is actually a very complex science of botanical associations and landscape compositions.

In the low part there is a glade, a remarkable collection of rare trees chosen for their colors.
