28 km East of Paris, within the Marne and Gondoire, Lagny-sur-Marne is a charming provincial city, convivial and dynamic.

Its heritages geography and trade in a Medieval city seduce all visitors, with many historic buildings as the Town hall which is drawn up on the site of the Saint-Pierre abbey, and the abbey church Notre-Dame-des-Ardents.

In this river city walkers and yachtmen enjoy the edges of the Marne, near the river house. Its briard panorama, between fields and forests inspired writers and painters who choose up Lagny-sur-Marne as an artists city.

Lagny-sur-Marne lives on the rhythm of its pleasant shopping areas and the market, heired from the medieval Champagne fairs.

Mysteries of the saint Pierre-Abbey

mysteries-of-the-saint-pierre-abbey

The nail of the cross : The city arms comprise a nail.

The legend says that it is a nail of the Christ cross, given by king Robert le Pieux to the abbey in 1019.

This relic disappeared during calvinist plunderings of the monastery in 1567 is now lost.

Jeanne d' Arc sword : Jeanne d' Arc stayed twice in Lagny-sur-Marne in September 1429 and in spring 1430.
During her second stay, Jeanne made a miracle that the catholic clergy argued with for its canonization. She made live a child dead for 3 days, to christen him.

When she leaved Jeanne gave 6 swords. One of them belonged to Charles Martel which would be been used to fight out the Arabs in Poitiers into 732.
This “holy sword” was hidden by a priest of the abbey. It would be always in Lagny in an basement located under the church or walled in a pillar of the vault…

The fountain and the five pinions

the-fountain-and-the-five-pinions

The Saint-Fursy fountain points out the town centre for a long time.
Texts from the 13rd century mention it.
The spring would be appeared due to a miracle of Saint-Fursy.
The building of the " Five Pignons" (12nd and 16th century) is the old market which sheltered formerly the merchants of the Ypres for the Champagne's fairs.
