Eguisheim and its surroundings

In Eguisheim, it is very pleasant to stroll around the streets, the warm light varies according to the seasons, emphasizing the colours of the houses located within the city walls.

Herrlisheim is a village that lives on agriculture and wine making. Indeed, 200 ha of land are allocated to vineyards while 400 ha are allocated to agriculture. Herrlisheim is on the list of 'Villages Fleuris', Herrlisheim also has a a field listed by the 'Conservatoire des sites' along River Lauch. There are numerous footpaths as well as cycling tracks.

The vineyard of Colmar loomed over by the castle of Eguisheim is an invitation to discovery.

Within the city walls, the village has numerous shops and craftsmen workshops mostly dedicated to gastronomy.

Nestled at 380 meters high at the feet of the Stauffen mountain and the 'Trois Châteaux du Hauts d'Eguisheim' located 7 km from Colmar, Husseren-les-Châteaux is the highest Alsatian vineyard. The view on the Plain of the Rhine  and the Black Forest is amazing.

The grapes picked on the Pfersigberg and the Eichberg vineyards are famous and renowned since the 15th century. Today, the local wine makers are proud of their wines, cellars and their hotel and restaurant slightly hidden at the edge of the forest, give to Husseren the opportunity to be a haven of peace for tourists and city dwellers tired of urben agitation.

The week end following the 14th of July, Husseren-les-Châteaux celebrates 'Husseren en Fête' where wine and food tasting take place among the traditional folklore in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

At all time, the inhabitants of Husseren will be happy to welcome their guests and share with them their simple quality of life of this region.

Not much is left of the Abbey except of the narthex and its three magnificent Romanesque archways dating from 1152 which was partially restored in 1992. The rest except of the porch dating from 1490, and the surrounding wall completed in 1496, is only a souvenir and the site has now become a meditative place.

Today, the surrounding wall of the Abbey houses the Auguste Biechler Institute of Medical Education. L'Abbey is also the theatre and hosts a rich cultural program, detail are found on: www.marbach-culture.fr.

During summer time, the office of tourism offers numerous guided tours, on the occasion of the 'Balade Fleurie', towards the Abbey of Marbach. Each year, this outings take place on the 24th and 31st of July and on the 14th and 21st of august. You can subscribe to the free activities at the office of tourism.

About 10 km South-West of Colmar, Voegtlinshoffen is located in the heart of a hilly vineyard. The view on the plain and the Black Forest is magnificent. Also, when the weather is nice and clear, one can see the beautiful Alps. in this village there isn't any old half timbered houses or even old stair cases as the 30 years War has destroyed the entire village, which was rebuilt in a more sober style. Nevertheless, the cleanliness of the streets, the welcoming wines cellars et its amazing flowery decoration attract numerous tourists looking for some peace and quiet.
