Discover the site of Rochefort
Attached to the commune of Martin Saint in Top in 1814, the site of Rochefort is a medieval city of the XII century.
This one is composed in particular of a Church which was, during several centuries a very attended place of pilgrimage and ruins of a fortress being used for defense.
This " high lieu" mounts of the Lyonese is the symbol of the local inheritance: classified and protected site, Rochefort became with the passing of years an important tourist attraction for the commune.
It is in this medieval site that the MJC organizes a Sound and Light in August. The Vault of Rochefort was built in XIIIème century on the rock with peak which overhangs in the East the valley of Artillat. It is directed West-east.
Outside, the cover of the bell-tower was originally a soft pitched roof with four slopes. It is into 1887 that the Faure priest made crown this bell-tower of an octagonal arrow. The bell, gone back to 1615, carries a Latin inscription which is translated as follows: " I will cry the late ones and I will inform the alive ones; I will disperse the clouds and I will push back the tempêtes".
