Welcome to the mornantais country

Rich in its past, the Mornantais Country conceals many testimonys of an active rural life: strengthened farms, cabins, low walls of dry stones with landscapes in terrace, wells conical, laundrettes, mills, and d' a religious life: cross of mission, sanctuaries, caves of Doors.

Strengthened Farms and Houses of the fields.

The Lyonnaises big families held large farms named “castles of the fields” on the Mornantais plate while on the watershed the “strengthened farms” were made discrete with the hollow small valleys.

The Wells, Laundrettes and mills testify about a rich person activity around the water: washing machines, millers, hat industries. The pertaining to worship inheritance is very present in the landscape. This area was called “the small Vendée”.

 Perched on a rocky outcrop or nested in the hollow of  a small valley, each village conceals good number of architectural testimonys attesting of the occupation of the area since very old times. Let us quote among these high places: Mornant with the old medieval borough around its church, Orliénas village strengthened with its castrum, Riverie old place-strong which supervised the perthuis co. Catherine, Taluyers with her church unit and priory, St-Andéol-the-Castle whose rectilinear plan of the old borough makes think of a country house.

 This area located on a plate is also called “Balcony of the Lyonese” because it enjoys from an exceptional sight on the valley of the Rhone, the Dauphine one and the Alps. Thus, on this territory spread out the most varied cultures: since cereals, the truck farming and the meadows until the red fruit orchards, fisherman, pear trees and apple trees. Side vineyards: two names côtoient “AOC wine of the Slopes of the Lyonese” and “local wine of the Rhone-native Hills”.

The saltings and the fresh produce of the farm are found on the markets of Lyon.

 You will be allured by the diversity of the aspects of the landscape which, in addition to the vines, the fruit-bearing cultures, is made up a plate notched by many brooks and rivers, and first buttresses of the Mounts of the Lyonese. You will be able to observe a broad variety of natural environments, of which several have an ecological interest some, according to diversity, the abundance and of the originality of the flora and fauna: meadows and moors of the plate of Montagny, the valley in Barret, the valley of Bozançon, the combe of Allier, the way of Great Excursion GR. 76 which crosses France of North to the South, the way of St Jacques de Compostelle which joined Puy in Velay.

The Mornantais Country profits from a natural of quality and varied framework which lends itself perfectly to the practice of the VTT. An association mornantaise marked out 4 courses VTT green, blue, red, black corresponding to the 4 levels of difficulties, the beginning of Mornant.
