Tourism - Hauts-de-France

Hauts-de-France is an administrative region of France located in the north of the country. It includes two departments that are Nord and Pas-de-Calais. Main cities are Lille and Arras.

The tourist attractions are numerous in this region and are the beaches of Nord such as Bray-Dunes and the ones in Pas-de-Calais such as Berck and Le Touquet, famous for their sandy dunes and spacious areas, ideal for sand yachting, and the sanatorium of Berck and the seaside town of Le Touquet.

The tourism industry had developed considerably when the TGV Nord-Europe and Eurostars trains were linked to Lille as well as the proximity to cities like Paris, Brussels and London. Also, the region has a rich cultural and historical heritage with numerous bell towers of which 17 are listed world heritage by UNESCO; Vauban fortifications; the Rihour Palace and the old stock exchange in Lille. The interesting Museums are the fine art museum of Valenciennes, the opening of a local branch of the Louvres in Lens and the museum located inside a former public bath building in Roubaix.

Finally, cultural events are numerous with the carnival of Dunkerque with the ‘giants’ parade, the ‘Braderie de Lille’ or Lille Fair, the ‘Côte d’Opale festival’; the festival of the Abbey de Saint-Pierre en Thiérache and the festival of short film in Lille.
