Tourism - Aisne
Aisne is a French department located in Picardie region, surrounded by the departements of Marne, Seine-et-Marne, Nord, Oise, Somme and Ardennes as well as Belgium. The inhabitants are called the Axonais. It has only one middle size town called Saint-Quentin and three small towns that are Soissons, Laon and Château-Thierry, one can also add Tergnier and Chauny. The main rivers are Escaut, Ourcq, Aisne, Somme, Marne, Vesle, Oise and Serre rivers. In the south of the department the main rivers are Surmelin, Dhuys and Verdonnelle rivers. In addition, the Saint-Quentin Canal runs through the department.
The tourism infrastructure Center Parcs is set on the Ailette Lake since 2007, very near several tourist sites such as the cathedral of Laon, the ‘Chemin des Dames’ and the 'Chateau de Coucy'. Riverside holidays and leisure are mainly located around the Saint-Quentin Canal with its electric chain shipping and its two tunnels. Also, Countryside holidays and cycling activities are a growing sector as there are more than 2,000 km of walking and cycling paths.
