Fortified castles and panoramas

Mittelbergheim is listed 'one of the most beautiful village of France'. Maybe it is the location at the heart of the vineyards and its two bell towers that awarded this title or the narrow streets and court yards invited to wine tasting sessions or even its history?

The wine path of Mittelbergheim offers great views on Andlau and the nearby villages on the 'Wine road'. Also, it is said that a Stork nestles on a roof near the village.

In the village there are several things to see. The upper part of the village leads to the 'Rosenberg Kiosk' from where one can admire great views on the northern part of the Plain of Alsace.

Vineyards and fields are all around the village. Also, this is the point of departure to the castle of Landsberg made of sandstone and granite and dating from the 12th century. The castle is accessible in 45 min walk.

When approaching the village of Andlau, one can already see the two towers of the Andlau castle, which was built in 1337 by Rodolphe of Andlau. An hour and fifteen minutes walk is necessary to reach the castle from the road D425.

Another fifteen minutes walk to reach the castle of Spesbourg, built by Alexander de Dicka in order to protect the Andlau Abbey in the 13th century. These ruins located at 400 m high are surrounded by forests.

Itterswiller offers great views on vineyards, the plain and also on the village itself with several half-timbered houses and well decorated restaurants as well as lovely streets to stroll around.

The village has been ranked with 4 flowers at the national contest 'Villes et Villages fleuris' for twenty years. It is one of the best views of the Barr and Bernstein area.

The village is located on the hill's gentle slopes and offers great views from the Fronholz vineyards onto the Barr and Bernstein area.

This fortified castle dating from the 11th century, made of granite and located near Dambach-la-Ville is one of the oldest castle in Alsace.

To get to the castle, one has to go through the fortified village of Dambach-la-Ville then walk for 45 min in the forest. Soon the 18 m high towers will be visible.

Only one path leads to the village that is located deep in a valley among vineyards and mountains. A good quality of life has been maintained there. It is also the path that leads to the 910 m high summit of the Ungersberg mountain. This site is not to be missed.
