Details | The Barr and Bernstein Region is crossed by three rivers, the Andlau, the Kirneck and the Schernertz. In the past, not only they were providing water to the inhabitants as well as being used as a way of transporting goods but also they created many jobs. |
The Hohwald, a pretty green patch

Nestled in the heart of the forest, the Hohwald is much appreciated by nature lovers. Walkers enjoy the divers footpaths whereas city dwellers enjoy the fresh air.
Discover the richness of the area, the great variety of trees and the Andlau waterfall, especially in summer when light and music shows take place.
Before setting off, unwind one last time by the 'petite roue' and enjoy the peace and quiet of the place.

Andlau, a crossroad

The town of Andlau has grown around the river of the same name. Mills and sawmills have long disappeared although Andlau keeps flowing along the path that leads to the cave.
At dusk, the water falls are floodlit. Further away at the address '11 rue de la Marne', an old mill wheel is part of the house decoration.

Barr, and the River Kirneck

River Kirneck crosses the city of Barr and unveil its vestiges of the tannery city. The tannery is actually still working.
There is also a great collection of wooden furniture at the Folie-Marco museum as well as a part dedicated to the 'Schlitte'.

Bourgheim and Valff

Bourgheim is a quiet village. Here, the river flows towards Bourgheim as the bank are floodlit at dusk to please visitors.
The Mill of Valff where wood was lead to from the port of Zellwiller. Today, numerous craftsmen are still with wood.

Stotzheim and Eichhoffen

Stotzheim and the Muhlbach canal. Stotzheim means "Storze" or tree stump
The Muhlbach, an Andlau's canal, crosses this charming village that dedicates to it a celebrating market day at the end of May, each year.
Eichhofen is a stop over village. its name comes from the "Eiche" or the Oak tree. at the entrance of the village there is an old wash house. A lay-by is located near the water.

Itterswiller

Itterswiller is a small village as well as being an important gastronomic area. The River Schernetz flows peacefully by the foot of the 'Mont des Abeilles' where the village is settled.
