Musée d'Art Moderne et Comptemporain de Strasbourg

The Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMCS) was inaugurated by Catherine Trautmann, then Minister of Culture and former Mayor of Strasbourg, in December 1998.

It was built by the architect Adrien Fainsilber on the left bank of the Ill, opposite the headquarters of the Alsace European Community and close to the Vauban dam and the picturesque Petite France district.

The Place Jean-Arp, on which the museum opens, is also home to the École nationale d'administration on its northern side, housed in the former Sainte-Marguerite prison.

Since March 2008, Estelle Pietrzyk, formerly in charge of the Picasso Museum, the Rodin Museum's drawing room and the creation of the Soulages Museum in Rodez, has been the museum's curator.
