Visit dissay city

The castle of Dissay dates from XV century. It is Pierre of Amboise, bishop of Poitiers, which made it build. It will be used besides as residence to the bishops until the Revolution.

The defense systems were authorized by letters patent of January 11, 1434 signed of the King Charles VII. Hugues de Combarel, successor of Pierre d' Amboise is authorized there to build a hotel surrounded by “walls, fossez, paleiz, bridge portaux leveiz, turns, guérites, weepholes and other fortifications and emparemens, telz that good will seem to it”.

The building draws a flanked rectangle of round towers which give him this imposing air. The fortification of the building is found in all the architectural elements: the presence of the machicolations, the limited number of windows, ditches and the drawbridge (replaced then by a bridge sleeping). In spite of this wealth of precautions, it was taken by the admiral de Coligny before the head office of Poitiers of 1569, episode of the wars of religion.

In 1789, the bishop of Poitiers, Martial-Louis Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire, is elected with the General states of the kingdom but in 1791, he refuses to lend the oath of the civil constitution of the clergy and flees in emigration. The castle thus is seized and sold like national good.

The building for this time has suffered from several destruction. The collegial one which bordered the wall located on the right of the castelet of entry, was destroyed. In the oratory, murals dating from the XVI century were damaged by alteration work. There remain all the same elements of these frescos which are one of the interests of the visit of the castle.

This circuit of 6 km, to carry out on foot, in the bicycle or horse will enable you to better know the sites of the village at your rhythm.

 The commune profits from a network of many ways which main axes are:

• the valley of Clain (orientation sees Roman, the towns)
• the forest of Moulière and valleys dry (orientation way of the 2 communes, way of Vallis, way of the Thirds)
• connections between close villages and hamlets: way of Winged, the oval towards the jonchère, Puygremier towards Daumonts, the Thirds, Marit…)

At 5 minutes of Futuroscope, the House of Country of the Valley of Clain constitutes an attractive halt on D910 (ex RN 10) with height of Dissay, in the middle of the Community of Communes of the Green Valley of Clain. It invites you to discover the artisanal richnesses and the local gastronomical specialities.

A hostess of the reception is at your disposal to inform you and advise themselves on the products of your choice. It will make you discover local specialities: Stuffed Poitevin, Crushed of Poitou, cheese-making Oil cake, Wine of High Poitou… All the products are manufactured in an artisanal way by producers or craftsmen of Vienna.

For your greedy ideas, you will find a whole range of furnished baskets. You can also personalize your basket. You will also find ideas of original gifts: pottery, carved enlightened stone, porcelain painted with the hand, mohair, toy out of wooden, floral composition, jewels…

Temporary exhibitions of the local artists are introduced: painting, sculpture, photograph… and the House of Country also make you discover the tourist richnesses of Vienne and in particular of the Valley of Clain: Recreation park of Saint-Cyr military school, Castle of Dissay, cycle tracks, wine trail of the Haut-Poitou…
