Château d'Ô
The Château d'Ô is a foolishness of a rich bourgeois of Montpellier in the XVIIIth century. Located in the heart of Montpellier,in the Herault department and classified as historical monument with its gardens and its dovecote since 1922, the Château d'Ô is one of the most beautiful castles in France.
Built on an old medieval fortress on an island in the middle of a pond, the Château d'Ô is remarkable with its unique turrets and roof, its arcades formed by outstanding columns, a chapel and a beautiful orangery. The castle is situated in the middle of the Domaine d'Ô offers to visitors a exceptional place on 23 hectares of relaxation, which is a veritable museum of garden art of the eighteenth century, but also a mill, a dovecote, some canals and a river .
Today, the Château d'Ô houses an art gallery and a 1,800 seats amphitheatre set in the gardens which hosts festivals and operettas in summer as "Les Nuits d'Ô" or the "Festival de Radio France".
