Citadelle de Besançon
The citadel is a fortress overlooking the city of Besançon. It's one of the masterpieces of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707), military engineer of King Louis XIV. This citadel is now the symbol of the city and one of the best place of tourism franc-comtois.
On 29 September 1668, the first stone was laid. Today, between 200,000 and 280,000 visitors frequent this place which also houses three museums: the Museum of Resistance and Deportation Museum and the Museum Comtois.
