Cathédrale de Besançon et son horloge astronomique
The Cathedral of Besançon was built in the XIe-XIIIe and XVIII centuries. Its presents two opposing choirs and has several styles : romanesque, gothic and baroque.
We can find a Virgin with Saints of Fra Bartolomeo (1518), a Pietà by Conrad Meyt of 1532, paneling of Louis XVI and vestments of the XVI century, unique in France. The astronomical clock dating from 1860, it was built by Auguste Lucien Vérité. This exceptional clock combines 122 indicates and calendar of the movement of planets.
The tour allows the public to discover a large part of the mechanism, revealing more than 30 000 pieces and 11 movements, with four outside dials, located on either side of the bell tower, and a fifth placed inside the Cathedral.
