Nice is a seaside city located in the south of France near the Italian border, the city is considered as the capital of the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur) and is the fifth biggest French town with around 300 000 inhabitants.
Nice, a major tourist destination
The city of Nice is a major tourist destination of the French Riviera due to its geographic location, its abundance of hotels and its transport infrastructures such as its international airport (the second largest in France after Paris) and its TGV station.
The city has a mild and sunny climate all year long, which attracts thousands of tourists each year, making a good use of its beaches and its historical centre. Its streets and squares lined with terraces give to the Mediterranean city its charm.
Nice owns a rich architectural heritage which arose over the course of the centuries and was strongly influenced by the Italian culture. The citadel, the palaces, La place Masséna and La Promenade des Anglais are all major tourist attractions in the city
A city of arts and culture
The city of Nice has a rich artistic and cultural heritage and has the second largest number of museums in France after Paris. These museums are opened all year long and allow the inhabitants of Nice and the tourists to enjoy its quality exhibitions containing works from the most famous painters and sculptors.
Music is of great importance to the city of Nice due to its luxurious, Italian-style, opera. Every summer, the Jazz festival in Nice, which takes place in the arènes et jardins de Cimiez, also attracts numerous tourists. Not forgetting the numerous musicians and the artists who liven up the districts of the city by night, as well as in the day.
The Nice carnival, the first ever in France, which takes place every year in March is one of the most famous carnivals in the world, as it attracts more than a million visitors each year. Other events are also organized by the city during this festive period.
Gastronomy in Nice
the Nice cooking is made with a lot of simple products, like eggplants, peppers, tomatos, zucchini flowers, or olives. Then, in the specialities, we find the famous Socca, a big crepe made chickpea flour, the "pissaladière", oignon cake with a anchovy and olives.
