The norwegian monument
The norwegian monument 'Le Matelot' was inaugurated in 2004 in the presence of his majesty the King Harald V of Norway.
The monument 'Le Matelot' was erected in Hermanville-sur-Mer on Courbet square, to commemorate 34 norwegian sailors who were the first to be killed during the Normandy landings on the 6th of June 1944.

Avenue Harold Pickersgill
The 6th of June 2004, the commune of Hermanville-sur-Mer inaugurated the Avenue Harold Pickersgill in the presence of his children. Harold Pickersgill lived in Mathieu for 1 month to organize the landing of Normandy. That is when he met a local young girl called Marie-Geneviève Lebret who became his wife.
