Var is a French department that is part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d‘Azur region. It is surrounded by the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Vaucluse and by the Mediterranean Sea. Main cities are Toulon, Brignoles and Draguignan.
Var is a major Holiday destination. One can visit the wine cellars and vineyards of Bandol, perched villages of the Fayence region such as Montauroux, Fayence,Callian, Seillans, Tourrettes, Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, Mons and Tanneron. One can also hike in the Esterel Mountain, windsurf on the Giens peninsula, cruise to the Porquerolles islands and scuba dive in the marine nature reserve of Port-Cros Island or stroll and enjoy the beach of Cavalaire-sur-Mer. The town of Saint-Tropez is also located in the department. The north of the department is also very popular thanks to the Haut-Var region and its perched villages, the hills, and the magnificent sites of the ‘Gorges du Verdon’ and the Sainte-Croix Lake and the Saint-Cassien Lake.
Numerous festivals take place in the department such as the Theatre festival of Ramatuelle, the ‘Voix de Garou’ festival in Six-Fours-les-Plages, the television festival of Saint-Tropez, the Comics Festival in Roquebrune-sur-Argens, the Comics Festival in Solliès-Ville and the Theatre Festival In Situ in Carqueiranne.
