Cloître de la cathédrale de Fréjus

In the heart of Fréjus, in the Var department, there is the Saint Leonce Cathedral with its superb cloister, built from the 12th to the 14th century. The four galleries were used by the monks to get into the cathedral. The ceiling, decorated with 14th century woodwork, is remarkable. It shows a group of medieval paintings presenting a bestiary of fantastic beasts. The cloister was listed as a French historical monument in 1875, the old well and the staircase leading to the first floor were restored between 1922 and 1931. Today, the adjacent rooms house temporary exhibitions and the small garden is an invitation to tranquility and relaxation.
