Tourism Foix
Foix is the capital of the Ariège department, located in the Midi-Pyrenees. The city is dominated by its magnificent castle which stands on a rocky outcrop; a testimony to the glorious past of the medieval town of Foix. The city is expands its influence in this part of the Pyrenees from the Middle Ages.
The historical heritage around the famous Castle of the Counts of Foix X - XV century was discovered whilst walking the streets of the old neighbourhoods of Foix. Its sculpted fountains, half-timbered facades, plazas, its church from the Ninth century, the Church of St. Volusien at the foot of the castle was built in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the Gothic period.
The city is also at the heart of the Pays de Foix-Varilhes offering inspriring natural sites and stunning scenery, varied and preserved. Throughout the year, Foix offers numerous large cultural and sporting summer events; craft markets and street entertainment, festivals in September, fireworks... Markets are also held during the week of Villote Lanes in the heart of the medieval town of Foix.
