Castrate is located at the foot of the black mountain, at an altitude of 172 meters above sea level, with 45 kilometers in the south-eastern south of Albi (prefecture of the Tarn), and with 72 kilometers in the east of Toulouse. Castrate is traversed north in the south by the named river Agout, tributary of the Tarn. Stage on the way of Saint-Jacob, Castres takes its rise at the beginning of IXe century around the abbey of Saint-Benoît cheese. The houses on Agout are then inhabited by the tisserands, dyers, tanners and finishers, affirming the first industrial calling of the city: the textile.
