Stop in Le Somail

Everything is nice in Le Somail: its walls covered in old plants with pink flowers, a majestic stone bridge, the circular tower, where ice was stored during the summer, its little chapel and a remarkable library. This is one of the most popular stops on the Canal du Midi. The village is tiny, but very enjoyable. In the eighteenth century, the boats used for the postal service took 4 days to go from Agde to Toulouse. Le Somail was one of the relay stations installed on the Canal.

Homps is an ancient commercial port where barrels of Minervois and Corbières wines were loaded for their journey to Bordeaux. Several wine producers are situated here and you can visit them for tours and tastings.

Stop in Carcassonne

Carcassonne is a world renowned UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of France's top tourist attractions. It has easy access from the airport and railway station and is an unmissable stop if you are cruising this part of the canal.

What is there to see?

The Medieval City, the castle and ramparts, the Basilica St Nazaire, where mass is still celebrated every Sunday at 11am. For something different, visit The Raymond Chésa Leisure Park , close to the imposing walls of the Cité Médiévale, and extending over 40 hectares - with picnic areas, pedalos, a mini golf course, several beach volleyball courts and a forest adventure park. The Number 7 bus gets you there very easily.
