The city of dax, in the heart of the landes forest

The amphitheatre 'La Fontaine Chaude' or the source of the Nehe owing its name to a Nordic goddess, is definitely the major symbol of the city.

The cathedral of a Neo-Greek classical style was built in the 17th century remplacing an old gothic church that was destroyed in 1646.

The Carmes Chapel was the chapel of the Carmes Convent that existed in 1523.

In the south west of Dax, Saint-Vincent-de-Xaintes owing its name to the 1st bishop of Dax.

The Helicopter Museum is unique in France and has been set up by former military men. It is set up in a vast 2,000 m2 hall, has one of the best collection of old military planes and helicopters, a gallery presenting a great number of pictures and documents, trophees, an impressive collection of scale models and slide shows on the history of Alat from WWII to the Indochina War.

A pleasant 6 km walk in the undergrowths separated by the Adour and the dyke.

Two kilometers away, the War Monument commemorates four young resistants who were killed by the Germans during WWII. A kilometer further are the 'Pelles' of Ardour that regulates water level during flooding.

Different activities are available in the 'Bois de Boulogne'with horse riding schools, fitness circuits, golf courses, lakes...

Go towards the South West and enjoy the pine forests and the ecomuseum of Marqueze in Sartres.

Located near the 'emerald forest' and the Ocean, Hossegor and its amazing beaches reflects a long tradition of hospitality.  This site was adopted by many artists and has therefore has been preserving its environment heritage for a long time.

Georgette Dupouy was a famous painter, born in Paris in 1901. About sixty of her paintings are permanently displayed in this museum.

The paintings have travelled around the world in different exhibitions right next to the most famous names of modern painting.

Things to see: the ancient Jacobins and Capuchins convents and a remarkable Romanesque building 'the Saint-Sever abbey' built in the 12th century.
