Alvignac

The commune of Alvignac is located on the trunk road 673 between Rocamadour and Padirac, in the North of causse of Gramat. An argillaceous valley Limargue the cross-piece right through of the North-West towards the south-west in which a brook of Cazelle runs which is lost in the pit of Castling of Corn. A second pit, Réveillon is located on its territory. They are characteristic of the underground geography of the area, strewn with caves and pits with a rather important and ramified underground grid which is prolonged far under causse with the example of their famous homonym the pit of Padirac.
The landscape of the commune is variable: covered walnut trees, pastures, chestnuts, causses limestone genévriers, and fields cultivated in the argillaceous zones. The variable altitude thus sees a landscape of hills and small valleys, the village itself being located on an eminence.

* Cross of Salgues 1806
Yellowish limestone cross in two parts: brace and was.
- Brace: widened branches.
- Barrel: in truncated pyramid.
Decorations in the center of the brace: a Latin cross in a circle; on the branches higher and side two grooves forming a loop; on the lower branch, six convergent grooves which are prolonged on the barrel. On the barrel, in the center, two circles engraved concentric with in the center the engraved date of 1806.Table chamfered on three sides, bases made up of a large calcareous block.

Cross with four branches widened out of yellowish limestone. Two parts: connect higher and crosses; connect lower and was. Go back engraved to 1887 on higher branch. Count yellowish limestone monolith. Base included in a wall: on the front, a flagstone monolith.

At the origin dependence of the castle, today communal property. The unused buildings which remain attest of its importance in particular at the XIXth century. The tourist office and the Town hall of Alvignac Water propose 6 hiking roads to you including 1 botanical course. These circuits are maintained and marked out. For each circuit, there exists a plate which comprises all the information (duration, level, plan…) In love ones with the flora, will choose a botanical course. “The turn of the castle of Cantecor” (3kms) its situation, partly on causse and partly on the limargue, makes it possible to observe a large variety of plants and landscapes.
All these plants are wild, they push spontaneously on this course, you can thus observe their environment. The other courses have each one a topic:
* The chestnut grove of Salgues (3kms)
A circuit short, easy, marked out and shaded, ideal in family with young children.
* Fonfrèje with the source (6kms)
A shaded excursion which will enable you to take ways ignored of Alvignac Water towards its Thermal spa in a green small valley.
* Fountains and laundrettes (7kms)
A refreshing excursion which will lead you “to the current” of fountains in laundrettes with discovered small rural inheritance built of Alvignac Water.
* The wood of the jonquils (7kms)
A course which will enable you to observe a splendid wood of jonquils at the season, but also of the castles, splendid cazelle and its enclosure, Thermal spa etc
* The large turn of Alvignac (15kms)
The course makes the Alvignac-The-Water turn by borrowing a sample of each circuit, it can be lengthened or shortened according to your taste.
