Eglise Abbatiale Saint-Pierre

The Abbey Church of Saint-Pierre was founded in the 9th century by Rodolphe of the family of the Counts of Turenne, Lords of Beaulieu.

Under the impetus of the Gregorian reform, pilgrimages took off, necessitating the construction of new, better adapted churches.

By 1150, the choir and transept of the new church at Beaulieu were already completed; construction continued until the 13th century.

The plan is similar to that of other Romanesque pilgrimage churches, in the form of a Latin cross, with a nave with aisles and an ambulatory allowing pilgrims to pray to the saints of their choice in the radiating apsidal chapels without disturbing the service.

The architect Anatole de Baudot carried out restoration work
