Montignac-charente

Montignac-Charente is a small medieval city, Montignac dominates the Charente river.
To discover:

• The Keep of XII century,
• The Towers Doors of XIII century.
•  Its edges of Charente, its hiking trails, its camp-site in edge of Charente….

Come to stroll in Marsac, small village at 5 km from Montignac.
The church St Gervais, registered in the additional inventory of the Historic buildings, is on the way of St Jacques de Compostelle.
You will discover also the beautiful mills, home, pigeon etc….
Marsac this is also fauna and the flora with its wild orchises.

Take time to discover the Romance churches of Coulonges, Nanclars, Prieuré of Vouharte…

Along your way, you will see vestiges of a vault templar (Maine de Boixe), a castle (Villejoubert), Charente-native gates (as in Anais), of the laundrettes (VAr) of beautiful Home (VAr, the Vault, Aussac Vadalle, Marsac…)

You will also discover the country cottage of Boixe (Residence of summer of the painter Eugene Delacroix), the clearing of Puymerle, the well of the miracles with Xambes

Castle of Montignac, located in the commune of Montignac-Charente, in Charente, remains only the keep.

It is built on a terrace dominating Charente.

From the enclosure, it remains the door with harrow with two round towers in top of an escarpment, the western part of l' enclosure and a round tower.

The current fairground corresponds to the low court. A watercolour of XIII century shows that there was in more two covered towers of pepper plantations. The holy priory Etienne which went back to 1030 was demolished in 1960, and its stones were partly used to go up the keep. This one forms an imposing mass where the sight is extended on the valley of Charente.

The vestiges were registered with the historic buildings on May 28, 1962.
