Le Château Fort et son Musée Pyrénéens
Built on a rocky outcrop, as if levitating between heaven and earth, the Pyrenean Castle-Museum of Lourdes majestically dominates the Marian city.
With more than a thousand years of history, this great stone vessel, classified as a Historic Monument, invites you to travel through time.
In turn a count's residence, a stronghold, a royal prison and a barracks, the fortress has braved time and countless assaults to become the Pyrenean Museum today.
The fortress, which has preserved its defensive architecture (keep, drawbridge, portcullis), also offers an exceptional panorama of the town, the Sanctuary and the Pyrenean mountain range from its ramparts.
At the heart of its walls, the museum, which has been awarded the "Musée de France" label, houses the most important collections on the history and cultures of the Pyrenees from the 18th to the early 20th century.
Its botanical garden with sculptures and architectural models also invites you to relax.
