Cathédrale Notre-Dame

The cathedral Notre-Dame de l'Assomption of Rouen is a symbolic monument of the city of Rouen.Gothic style, its construction began in the eleventh century and extends until the sixteenth century.

Framed by the towers Saint-Romain and butter, it is especially remarkable with its lantern tower. This last one peaks in 495 ft : It's the highest of France. It shelters some graves of which that of the Richard Coeur de Lion and Rollon. Its western facade is very singular: by its lack of a symmetry, we nickname it " the most human of cathedrals ".

The cathedral is known worldwide thanks to the 28 paintings by Claude Monnet who represent it.
In 1862, it is classified as "historical monuments".
