Tourism Rouen
Rouen is a town situated in northern France on the River Seine, and is the capital of the Haute-Normandie region. Rouen organises every four years the Grande Armada, a famous gathering of beautiful boats. Rouen used to be one of the biggest and richest cities of medieval Europe. It was in Rouen where Joan of Arc was executed.
Rouen is famous for its Notre Dame cathedral, with its Tour de Beurre. The Gros Horloge, an astronomical clock from the 16th century. Other renowned buildings are the Gothic Church of Saint Maclou from the 15th century, the Tour Jeanne d'Arc, the Church of Saint Ouen dating from the 12th and 15th centuries, the Palais de Justice and the Museum of Beaux Arts and Ceramics. Rouen is also renowned for its well-preserved half-timbered houses.
