Gardanne is strategically located close to Aix en Provence and Marseille. Perched on the south-eastern slope of the hill Captivel, the city is dominated by the former center of Gardanne. Once mining town, Gardanne today has an urban landscape marked by its centennial industrial history and has managed to retain its wealth from an old town full of charme.Le painter Paul Cézanne lived in Gardanne in 1885 and 1886, he was inspired by this website perched high he painted many times. If you arrive at Gardanne by the Aix road, you have the chance to discover the Valabre Estate which is located 3 km from the city center. This site is exceptional for the quality of its natural environment and its architectural heritage with the hunting lodge of the sixteenth and seventeenth castle.
