Tourism Biarritz
Located in the south-west of France, Biarritz is a sunny city on the Atlantic coast and possesses numerous coves and beaches, among which the Grande Plage, the Côte des Basques and the Port-Vieux. Counting approximately 27 000 inhabitants, Biarritz is full of history. During the XVIIIth century, sea bathing was trendy and Napoleon experienced one there and the city became the holiday resort of his wife, the empress Eugenie. Napoleon decided to build his wife a palace shaped as an E.
Biarritz is a city where you can have fun and relax. The city is first and foremost recognized by the surfers and regularly hosts competitions. The two others local sports are golf, with ten rounds within a 20km radius and rugby. You can also enjoy all the aquatic activities, in the sea or in a river (scuba-diving, canoe, rafting...) or simply wander around the Rocher de la Vierge.
Concerning relaxation, you can appreciate courses of treatment with seawater which the city is famous for and be welcomed in the different mineral springs and SPA resorts the city offers. In the evening, you can go out for a delightful meal in one of the many restaurants, pubs, creperies or Asian restaurants before trying out your luck at the casino located nearby the beach.
The city also hosts numerous festivals all along the year, such as the Oceanes (sea festival) in June, the BIG festival (contemporary music) in July and the Biarritz Jazz Festival in August.
