The Aude is a department located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France. The local council also calls the department "Cathar Country". Main cities in Aude like Carcassonne has been restored to much of its medieval glory. Narbonne attracts many tourists to its Roman ruins. Other towns and villages worth visiting include Limoux and its weekly local market, every Friday, Quillan, Lézignan-Corbières, Lagrasse (a very attractive medieval village), Sigean and Leucate and its beach resort. The Corbières Hills form the central part of the department. It is a very attractive area of steep hills, valleys, woodland and vines, and contains some of the most remarkable Cathar sites including Quéribus, Peyrepertuse and Villerouge-Termenès.
