Basilique Saint-Nazaire


Basilic of Saint-Nazaire is a remarkable monument of the city of Carcassonne.

It was built in the VI century, during the reign of Theodoric. In 1096, Pope Urban II came to Carcassonne and blessed the stone construction of the Cathedral. The building was completed in the first half of the twelvth century. Rearrangements gothic expire in the XII century, remodeled many times, loses its status of a cathedral in 1803 in favor of Saint-Michel.

In 1898 she received the title of basilic granted by Pope Léon XIII. It has 5 arches falling from either side on five columns with capitals and only the two closest capitals of the door are original.
