Toulon is located between sea and mountains, economic capital of the Var, Toulon profits from many natural assets. Tourism, the trade and the administrations (public or private) occupy an important place in the economic activity of the city

It welcomes the largest French military port: the base naval of Toulon, still called arsenal and also has an airport which transports more than 620.000 passengers per annum.

The commercial port of Toulon is the first French port for the service road of Corsica. In 2008,1.032.908 passengers embarked since the VAr, which accounts for 65% of the traffic towards Corsica. This boom is related to the presence, since 2001, of the Corsica Ferries maritime company.

It knew its hours of glory in 1707 at the time of the head office of Toulon by the ships of the Anglo-Spanish coalition at the time of the wars of succession to the throne of Spain to which the king Louis XIV claimed.
• The Place of Freedom

• Genius of Navigation
  This statue is located on the Square of the Port, in front of the town hall of the honor. This bronze work of Louis - Joseph Daumas points his left index in direction of the sea and was inaugurated on May 1, 1847 in l' honor of king Louis Philippe

It is possible to discover the Toulon-native calcareous solid mass by its hiking trails. A nature of an amazing richness will reveal you all its intimacy. Certain plant species are threatened, then preserve them.

On the few 2585 species of plants listed in the VAr, more than 150 are registered on regional red book P.A.C.A of the threatened flora, of which the orchis “Ophrys in the shape of spider” present in the South of the department.

Many threatened animal species are protected by the law, the such eagle of Bonelli, whose couple on the 25 remainders in France is present at the Caume Mount. In order to preserve them a Decree of Protection of Biotope going back to 1993, interdict on this site certain activities (escapade, camp-site…).

Moreover, since 1996, the city entrusted to the national office Forests the realization of a program of afforestation aiming at regenerating the totality of the forest settlement of the Faron Mount.
