The Mont Saint-Michel is a commune located in the La Manche department in the Basse-Normandie region and owes its name to the rocky island dedicated to Saint-Michel on which the Mont-Saint-Michel abbey was built.

The architecture in Mont Saint Michel and its bay makes it to be the most popular tourist destination in Normandy and the second most popular in France.

A statue of Saint Michel is placed at the top of the abbey church at 170 m high. The site is listed as a historical monument as well as a world heritage by UNESCO.
