Musée des Beaux-Arts de Quimper
The Musée des Beaux-Arts of Quimper is a museum located in front of the Saint Corentin Cathedral in the downtown of Quimper. The Museum of Fine Arts of Quimper is now among one of the finest museums in France and Britanny. The Museum was founded in 1864, thanks to a donation from the remarkable collection of paintings and drawings of the Count Jean-Marie de Silguy to his hometown in order to host a museum in Quimper.
It was then renovated and expanded to house new works of art. The Musée des Beaux-Arts of Quimper houses beautiful paintings of the Northern School, the Italian School, the Spanish School, the French School (Boucher, Fragonard, Hubert Robert, Meynier) and the famous Pont-Aven School as a fine collection of paintings from the Fonds de peintures d’inspiration bretonne (Luminais, Breton, Gudin ..) and a tribute to the painter and poet born in Quimper, Max Jacob with drawings, gouaches, sculptures , and other documentation of his friends (Picasso, Cocteau, Laurens, Jean Moulin, De Belay).
Plus, The Musée des Beaux-Arts of Quimper houses many magnificent drawings and prints. In addition, temporary exhibitions are held regularly and workshops set up for children.
