Le musée du Château


The museum of the « Château de Pau » is located in the old city of Pau. It is famous for being the birth place of Henri IV King of France and Navarre. The castle bears marks of the of Henri IV, its image is visible everwhere in the castle. Althought the castle is much older than the association of the kingdoms of France and Navarre. Also, it was listed as a historical monument in 1840.

The castle became a presidential residence under the Republic. It is now a National Museum housing art Works preserved from the era of Henri IV and mostly from the restoration done by Louis-Philippe. The collections are getting larger each year and focus on Henri IV. The museum greets more than 100,000 visitors per year and thus is the most visited site in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques.
