Musée Saint-Germain
The musée Saint-Germain d’Auxerre is located in the Saint-Germain abbey, which houses the necropolis of the bishops of Auxerre. The monks’ dormitories house the museum of archaeology where are presented the prehistory and the gallo roman collections.
Three rooms present the history of the abbey, its scriptorium and the archaeological collections. The important collection of painting is not displayed as the museum only presents medieval and antique collections. The Greek masterpiece « Dame d’Auxerre » was exhanged with the Louvre museum in 1909.
