Fort Libéria
Built by Vauban from 1681, Fort Liberia is located on the heights of Villefranche-de-Confluent. In order not to alert the enemy of insufficient number of defense weapons, shutters on the windows were installed in order to quickly move the guns from one window to another.
Fortified under Napoleon III between 1850 and 1856, the building was abandoned shortly after. Then it was bought by an individual who goes into a retirement home for sailors. Recovered by an association, it refurbishes and sells to a local authority.
The building was listed as a historic monument in April 2009.
