Tourism Troyes
Troyes is the second city of the Champagne-Ardenne region and the main city of the Aube department, housing near 60 000 inhabitants. Troyes is a remarkable medieval city with a rich architecture, history and culture. It was the third European city during the thirteenth century.
From being the City of Tricasses in the second century BC to the liberation of the city during the Second World War through the Battle of Châlons fields, the Council of Troyes and Champagne Fairs, the rich history of Troyes as a religious city, has now left an outstanding urban and architectural heritage in Troyes with 42 buildings protected as “Historical Monuments”, which helped the city of Troyes to be designated "art and history city".
Many buildings which reflect this past wealth are still visible and can be visited and admired in the streets by going for a walk in the beautifully preserved old town of Troyes. Hundreds of timber-framed houses dating back to the Middle Ages and churches, convents, abbeys and other religious buildings are a unique heritage in the heart of the Champagne Region.
