Tourism At the gates of the country trough
The Troarn history dates back to 1022, with Roger 1 of Montgomeri who sent the canons of Conches (Eure) and built a college. Succeeding his father, Roger II Montgomeri summoned monks of the Abbey of Conches (Eure) and founded the Benedictine abbey of St. Martin in 1048 on the site of the former. This church was dedicated May 13, 1059 by Conteville of Odon, bishop of Bayeux, half brother of William says "The Bastard". The monk Durand was named 1st abbot. Roger II Montgomeri (a famous descendant of this family should participate in the liberation of Normandy in 1944) was wife of Mabile Bellême who died tragically murdered in Bures sur Dives in his mansion. She was buried in the abbey of St Martin Troarn. Religious wars in 1562 and the Revolution of 1789 destroyed the Abbey whose property was confiscated, sold and scattered. Troarn underwent the 1914-1918 war before the German occupation of WWII. Devastated during the Battle of Normandy, it was released August 17, 1944. Since its reconstruction, Troarn experiencing considerable population growth. In July 1972, and Troarn Bures sur Dives together and thus extend the limits of the municipality. Features: - Remains of the Abbey Saint-Martin of the eleventh century (visible from the outside only) - Tomb of Sir Hugh of the eleventh century (visit on request from the Tourist Office) - neo-Romanesque church , rebuilt in 1890 and restored after the 2nd World War (especially the bell tower) - The former mayor whose construction dates back to the years 1830-1848, where the headquarters Office of Tourism - The building of the clock, l 'former hospital founded in 1748 with its chapel and its mini-grotto of Lourdes - The marshes of the Dives.
