Savoie is a French department that is part of the Rhône-Alpes region. It is surrounded by the departments of Haute-Savoie, Ain, Isere, Hautes-Alpes and Italy. The main cities are Chambéry, Albertville and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.

The tourism industry is a major activity in the department. Savoie has the highest number of ski resorts compare to any other French department. In addition, Spa related activities are popular with four Spa towns such as Aix-les-Bains, Challes-les-Eaux,Brides-les-Bains and La Léchère. Also Savoie possesses over 220 historical monuments such as the prehistoric rock carvings in Aussois, Arc de Campanus and Roman thermal baths in Aix-les-Bains, the castle of the dukes of Savoie in Chambéry, numerous churches and chapels, the castle of Miolans in Saint-Pierre-d’Albigny, the cathedrals of Chambery, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Moûtiers.
