Tourism les Arcs
History
Les Arcs is the result of the meeting in the 1960s by Robert White, a mountain guide, ski instructor and a native of the country, and Roger Godino, developer of mountain tourism development.
The first site is historically Arc Pierre Blanche, Arc 1600 and then renamed. Then came successively Arc 1800, Arc 2000, with this avant-garde feature of Arcs. Then in the 2000s was built Arc 1950, this time using a traditional architecture of the Alps.
Architecture
Les Arcs is perfectly integrated into mountain landscape, and is distinguished by a creative architecture.
The urban and architectural choices tend to integrate the buildings, however large and desired functional landscape initially devoid of any construction. Rather than reproducing the traditional architecture adapted to the needs of the rural population more than those of tourists, the choice is made to incorporate traditional elements in new buildings: larch cladding and other wood, stone, roofing stone.
The units are arranged to have never vis-à-vis. Contact with the outside is facilitated by the large windows and balconies raised. The interiors are very well blended. Villages are organized into pedestrian streets, parking lots and roads left outside, usually downwards.
Les Arcs has been awarded the "Heritage of the twentieth century, created the Ministry of Culture and Communication in 1999 to enhance the architectural and urban heritage of this century.
