Details | The meander on where Fumay is located presents an island shape that encloses the old city in a circus, as a natural fence. |
The Saint-Roch Chapel
At the end of the Place du Baty, you will see the Chapel Saint-Roch.
While an plague epidemic devastated the village, the procurator implored Saint-Roch and swore to build a devoted chapel if the plague stopped. The miracle took place and therefore in 1662 the chapel was built.
Besides the legend of Saint-Roch and his dog, another legend relates that the girls in age to get married were going to kiss a nail to his door while thinking about their fiancé. If the marriage was not celebrated in the year, it took place 7 years after (lasted to the era of the military service).
Although we can think about it, this famous nail still exists.

Chapel Notre-Dame de Divers Monts
Following a long limetrees avenue, planted in 1738, you will arrive to the Chapel Notre-Dame de Divers Monts. Dating back from the 8th century, this place would have been the first place of the town life. This site was the seat of the Brotherhood Notre-Dame de Divers Monts.
If the legend of Sainte-Barbe pleased you, another legend tells a curious story that we invite you to discover.

The carmelites convent
The convent of the Carmelites - Museum of the Ardoise.
A convent had been founded in 1630 by the Princess of Chimay who allowed some nuns to found their cloister.
A vast housing was built in the 18th century. But only one building shelters today the Museum of the Ardoise Michel Paradon.
