Chief town of canton, Poncin is located between the Genevois basin and the region of Lion, in the department of the Ain, on the bottom of the mountains of Bugey, Dombes and the Bresse.

Circuit of the Gorges of Ain

While following the picturesque road of the Throats of Ain at the beginning of Poncin, the discoveries are connected. The course of the landscapes, the preserved natural sites follow one another surprisingly, typical villages and hamlets with the houses vigneronnes out of stone and splendid works of the art allowing to pass a bank with the other without difficulty.

The circuit is declined in one or more loops:

It is advised to go up left bank and to go down again Right Bank
The general circuit forms a loop of 70 km going from Poncin to Thoirette, limiting between the department of Ain and of the Jura

Two other circuits, shorter, are realizable:

A loop of 20 km going of Poncin to Serrières-on-Ain and a loop of 40 km going of Poncin with Cize-Bolozon. To note: the circuit is prolonged in the department of the Jura.
